iTouch Review - iPod touch 32 GB (3rd Generation) Review
By savvytravel
I thought about reviewing either my Acer Aspire One netbook or my girlfriend's Toshiba NB205 netbook as the best netbooks for travel, but then I would be lying to myself.
The best gadget for travel is the new iPod Touch (iTouch) by Apple. (And I'm not a Mac person.)
Ever since I traded my old Nokia N73 by an iPhone 3GS, I almost stopped completely using my netbook. I still use it when I need a full keyboard, but that's just because I don't have a wireless keyboard. Yet!
But if I am talking about my iPhone, why am I reviewing an iPod Touch?
It's simple. I am most concerned about international travel. And bringing your phone along with you when traveling is simply not cool. Something I should have considered when I got my iPhone.
My girlfriend though it through and bought an iPod Touch for her, since she's still far away from finishing her current mobile contract.
Enough about me. Here it is, my iPod Touch/iTouch review.
What's Included
- 32 GB (enough for 7,000 songs, 40,000 photos, or 40 hours of video)
- Battery good for 30 hours of music playback or 6 hours of video playback when fully charged
- Screen is 3.5-inch widescreen with 480x320 px. resolution
- One-year limited warranty with single incident of complimentary telephone technical support
- Many, many languages, keyboards and dictionaries supported, including American and British English.
iPod Touch Battery Charge Time
Give it an initial charge for at least 2 hours. That's enough to charge around 80% of the capacity.
The full-charge time is 4 hours.

Apple iTouch - iPod touch 32 GB (3rd Generation) Review - NEWEST MODEL
First of all, let's get some things clear. You can load your existing CDs into your iPod Touch. You can also buy music straight from iTunes. And you can create as many playlists as you'd like.
You can also load movies and TV shows. You can either watch these movies in your iTouch, or get the attachment and plug it into a TV. Useful for entertaining kids on the road, too.
Movies, check. Music, check. What else?
Now we're talking! You can download free, useful apps. The most basic examples I carry with me are a currency calculator, dictionaries and news/RSS readers.
Bloggers can download free apps to post updates to their blogs. Web 2.0 addicts can stay hooked up on Twitter and Facebook. You can also use Skype and make free calls to your home.
You can even download games for your [inner] children. And Kindle books are fully compatible, too.
Using the internet in such a small device can seem weird, but it becomes second nature very quickly. Apple is very good in all aspects regarding usability, and the iPod Touch is no different.
Other Things Worth Noticing
- Easy initial setup, even for newbies (like I once was)
- Beautiful design
- Energy efficient
- Great graphics
- Passcode lock capability
What Are Others Saying?
- The BEST web browser on a portable device
- You are looking at the current killer appliance for personal entertainment
- It's does so much more than just play music, which is why I wanted one. I'm not a Mac person at all but the iPod Touch...I love it.
Any Issues?
Some users complained about the lack of multi-tasking features. This has been solved with the new iOS 4 operating system.
Final Thoughts
The iPod Touch is fantastic. You can check email, browse the web, listen to music and audiobooks, the free Kindle app, post updates on Facebook/Twitter/blogs, use Skype to contact family and friends...
...And it fits your pocket! Perfect for a traveler or a backpacker.
